Recently, many rumors have been circulating about Apple‘s upcoming 2027 updates, including the rumor about the comeback of Intel for the company’s M-series chips in 2027. Here are the details that you need to know:
Ming-Chi Kuo Prediction
The rumor was first started by a tweet made by Ming Chi Kuo, a supply chain analyst, on Friday at X. Based on his surveys, he concluded the chance of Intel to become Apple’s “advanced-node supplier… has improved significantly.” in these latest weeks.
As the iPhone maker is dealing with the Taiwan-based TSMC company for its iPhone, iPad, and Mac products’ silicon chips now, any deal with Intel can be noteworthy, considering the chipmaker is highly famous for forgetting to supply its own processor for the original iPhone.
It is known that the company moved from Intel to its own chips to gain tighter control over performance, energy efficiency, and product timing. By designing ARM-based SoCs optimized for macOS, the company achieved major gains in battery life, thermal performance, and unified hardware–software integration, while reducing reliance on Intel’s slower roadmap. This shift not only differentiated its devices but also pushed the industry toward greater system-on-chip integration, advanced process nodes, and on-device AI acceleration.
Kuo said that the company has a confidentiality agreement with Intel to acquire the company’s 18AP PDK 0.9.1GA chips. Currently, the company is waiting for Intel to ship PDK 1.0/1.1 kits, which are expected to arrive in the first quarter of 2026.
If all goes well, Intel could begin shipping Apple’s lowest-end M-series processors, built on the advanced 18AP node, around the second or third quarter of 2027, Kuo said.
However, that timing still depends on how smoothly the process will go once the company actually gets its hands on PDK 1.0/1.1 kits.

A Chance To Show Apple’s Commitment To The Trump Administration
Kuo believes the deal between the two companies will help the company to show its devotion to the Trump administration’s “buying American” by bringing back its supply chain to more US-based companies.
For Intel, this deal could signal the end of the company’s worst day. “Going forward, the 14A node and beyond could receive more orders from Apple and other tier-one customers, thus making Intel’s long-term prospects more positive,” Kuo wrote.
As for other major players through this move, AMD continues leading in high-performance x86, and Qualcomm is pushing ARM laptops focused on low power and connectivity. As a result, the semiconductor market is pivoting toward heterogeneous designs and specialized accelerators, forcing major players to either innovate rapidly or risk losing relevance in an increasingly Apple-influenced landscape.
