Unlike Pluribus, which attracts viewers with perplexing and puzzling premises where the most unhappy person in the world will save the world from happiness, The Last Frontier actually presented one of the most common premises in the television industry.

However, there are some fresh magic touches in this series that can still enchant the viewers to tune in. Although manhunts and police investigations tropes are everywhere, The Last Frontier successfully executes its common storyline with an intense frozen setting, engaging performances, and an unpredictable storyline that continues to develop as the story progresses.

Bokenkamp, the showrunner as well as the executive producer of the show, said that his love for procedural films made him try to balance his show between serialized suspense and closed-ended procedural. “I’m a sucker for procedural, right? I love a good closed-ended story, and I think that this show definitely has a procedural element. The hope going into it is that by the end of each episode, and I think the end of the season, you’re left with both a cliffhanger and with real resolution within the story….”

Although some scenes of the show may seem cliché, it is not being milked or overdramatized that creates a fresh air for its viewers. Just like one of the Reddit comments about the show by @AtmosphereUpstairs95, “For me it’s a great make-believe world that I can pretend to be a part of for almost an hour weekly. It stimulates me. I love it. There were times I may have yelled at screen not to do something but that’s what keeps it interesting.”

Another plus from the show is shown through its compelling and mesmerizing performances. A critique and entertainment, Jeff Ewing, noted the series as a story with an enticing storyline and delivers, especially when it comes to the performances.

All in all, The Last Frontier is not a common series that should be overlooked just because Pluribus is receiving all public attention after being one of Apple TV’s biggest streaming hits ever. Through a new perspective on Westerns, the series sets itself apart by presenting a unique setting, an unpredictable storyline, and performances that carry the show.

Until now, there are still no updates regarding any sequels or spin-offs for this series, making it a must-watch series that you should also tune in to before its final on 5 December.
