Premier League: Liverpool had two moments where they seemed to have the game under control and could go home with three points. But the competence of last season’s Premier League champion is no longer there.

The first half was rather quiet with both teams failing to find the back of the net. Curtis Jones’ incredible chance was denied by the crossbar. The first half ended with no goal.

In the second half, both teams seemed like they finally found the goals, with six goals scored in the second half alone.

Liverpool were leading by two goals after Hugo Ekitike’s brace on 48’ and 50’ minute, then Leeds got a penalty at 73’ minute that was perfectly executed by Dominic Calvert-Lewin who scored in his three consecutive games this season. Anton Stach then scored the equaliser at 75’ minute.

Dominic Szobszlai scored a goal that got Liverpool the lead back. ButAo Tanaka again scored late into the game from a deflected ball to get Leeds United the equaliser. That goal gave them a point to get away from the relegation zone.

A difficult night for Liverpool was not stopping there as Mohammad Salah later spoke up after the recent decision from Arne Slot, with the statement that the club is throwing him “under the bus.” Salah said that he was made the scapegoat for Liverpool’s poor form this season and casting a doubt for his future at the club.

The Reds have now won only two games from 10 matches in the Premier League. In the Champions League they sit in the 12th position with a crowded mid-table with only two points separate fifth from twelfth.

They won their last game by 2-0 against West Ham, but many said that it wasn’t Liverpool that had good performance, rather, it was West Ham that had a very bad performance with them sitting in the relegation zone.

But the highlight was once again toward Virgil Van Dijk. He was standing with hands on his hips, and steam rising both literally and metaphorically as he watched in disbelief at his team’s bizarre defending.

Arne Slot’s Comment About His Team

Arne Slot as the manager insisted that there are progress, and his teams is looking to be in control, only for Ibrahima Konate’s reckless tackle that gave Leeds a penalty and chance to boost their confidence.

“Unfortunately for him,” Slot said of Konaté, “he does a lot of things well but he has been a bit too much on the crime scene. He has been involved in goals we have conceded. If you are a centre-back that happens in football. Today it was a tackle that came from effort, he tried to block the cross, the ball went out and then there was contact. The question is of whether VAR should intervene.”

“It is not for the first time I see us doing many things well without combining the result with the performance,” Slot continued. “I can take a lot of positives. But it’s not even a dangerous chance that leads to the penalty. And then in nine minutes of extra time we conceded a set piece.”

Situation In the Premier League’s Table

Hugo Ekitike celebrate his goal

After this match, Liverpool is in the 8th position of the Premier League table with 23 points. It’s still not impossible for The Reds to challenge for the top four as they are only two points behind Chelsea, but with Man United, Crystal Palace, and Brighton haven’t played their game, they just need to hope all of them to drop points this week. For Leeds United, the one point could help them to get away from the relegation zone with them currently in the 16th position three points away from West Ham who are yet to play their game.

Do you think Liverpool can bounce back and find their performance? And could they salvage the remaining games to be at the top four in the end of the season?
