Premier League’s new signing, Gianluigi Donnarumma has already picked up four yellow cards in his first 10 games in the league.

Pep Guardiola backed Donnarumma by saying that he is still adapting with the new league and with the English officials. He picked up his fourth yellow card last this weekend against Leeds United after he was protesting a decision to the referee in the game that they won by 3-2. It was his third yellow card for dissent, while one yellow card was for time wasting.

With four yellow in his pocket already, Donnarumma could make a new Premier League history because no goalkeeper in the Premier League ever triggered a five yellow card suspension. The Italian goalkeeper needs to be careful and avoid getting another yellow card in his next six games. It means he has to avoid booking until after the New Year. Two yellow cards for dissent by Donaruma were gotten after the protest from him because the Italian and Guardiola were feeling that there was a foul on him before Man City conceded those goals. The manager didn’t take it too seriously after he was asked about the issue of Donnarumma. Pep instead said that he will just simply play James Trafford who is the no.2 goalkeeper.

Pep was in the mood to engage with the journalist’s questions on Monday. In the first part of his interview, he said that there is no reason to speak about this matter to Donnaruma, because the 26-year old goalkeeper is considered ‘adult enough’ to grasp all he needs to know to survive in the Premier League. He also added “He will step by step understand a new league, new behaviours.”

Donnarumma was in another controversy in Saturday’s Premier League game in the second half after he fell to the floor with apparent injury when all his teammates rushed to the touchline to get instructions from Pep Guardiola. Phil Foden spoke after the match on how important the instruction to adjust some tactical tweaks in that game, While Daniel Farke fumed because the referee could do nothing about it.

Bernardo Silva was also in the same position as Donnarumma after he picked up his fourth yellow card against Leeds. Both players need to be careful next game to avoid the suspension. Their game on Tuesday night is really important because they can cut the point gap from Arsenal to just two points if they win the game in the mid week.

Is There Issues With Premier League’s Officials?

For so many years, Premier League’s official have been criticized by many people for their inconsistency and controversial decisions. Even with VAR already in place, the mistakes keep happening and sometimes it frustrates players to the point they will get angry and show their anger towards referee. After they do it, the referee will give the a yellow card for dissent.

It kind of showing that Premier League’s officials have a little too many power in their hands. Sometimes it can be good when players really going aggressive towards the referee, but in other time, just a minor anger could result in yellow card.

These critiques have long been voiced by players and managers, but there are no changes whatsoever.

When there is an investigation, most of the time the troubled referee just being demoted to Championship for some games then they can back again leading Premier League’s matches. The PGMOL needs to change in order to make the games better.
