Manchester United last year’s signing, Joshua Zirkzee is reportedly has agreed to join AS Roma in the winter transfer window in January, based on reports in Italy.
The Dutch striker was signed last year from Bologna for a total fee of £36.5 million by Manchester United. But after 49 appearances in all competitions, he just managed to score seven goals in his first season as The Red Devils’ player.
Joshua Zirkzee’s statistic for Manchester United:
Appearance: 54
Goals: 7
According to Italian source, Gazzetta Dello Sport, Manchester United decided to approve the move of Zirkzee with AS Roma having made a loan offer for the 24-year old. This loan offer includes an obligation to buy if Roma Qualify to play in the Champions League next year.
The same report also stated that the player also said yes to the project as he wanted to work with Roma’s coach, GIan Piero Gasperini, who previously wanted to sign Zirkzee for Atalanta.
Gasperini during his time in Atalanta likes to use his striker to link up the play in the attacking area. With the tactical structure like that, Zirkzee’s profile is a good fit and he definitely good in that role. With his ability to link up, dropping deep to allow his teammates to attack more freely, and his dribbling that certainly will attract the defenders toward him.
And don’t forget that Gasperini was also coaching Rasmus Hojlund at Atalanta before his move to Man United. Rasmus Under Gasperini was performing good and catching the eyes of many big teams.
AS Roma currently have Evan Ferguson and Artem Dovbyk as their strikers, but both seem underperforming this season. That’s may be the reason why Roma are so keen in this transfer move.
Roma also have the alternative if the transfer of Joshua Zirkzee collapses. They are still keeping an eye on FC Midtjylland’s striker, Franculino Dju, who’s already scored 19 goals this season.

Zirkzee also already familiar with the Serie A and might require just a little time for his adaptation. his real challenge will be proving that his move is the right decision.
Ruud Gullit, the Dutch legend also encouraged Zirkzee to go back to Serie A after his ‘wrong’ move to Manchester United.
He said “I think from my point of view that he should have stayed in Italy, because he was really striving.”
“He was really doing well at Bologna, and I was hoping that he would go to Milan. I think that as soon as he went to Manchester United, it was the wrong decision.”
He also adds “I mean, for a player, moving to Manchester United has been the wrong decision. And whoever leaves them, plays well everywhere around Europe. Unjust hope that there’s a solution for him.”
What’s Next for Manchester United?
Manchester United earlier this season decided to block any transfer activity for Zirkzee because he was considered as important squad player to have.

But with limited game time and so many players United have in the no.10 position, and also with World Cup getting closer, Zirkzee wants more regular football to get himself a chance to be in the Dutch National Team squad.
With Zirkzee’s departure, United need to find maybe a different type of striker who can be cover and competition for Benjamin Sesko in the same position. But there is still no reports on who will United get when Zirkzee is leaving the club. You can read more information and news about Manchester United in Price In UK
But recent repots believe that Manchester United will likely go to strengthen their midfield or wingbacks area in the January transfer window.
