Manchester United continue to look for midfielders talents with the 2026 January Transfer window approaching.
Ruben Amorim as the United’s head coach will certainly look to reshape his midfield next year. Amorim will hope to finally find the right tuning for his midfield pivot. It will make him and United can play the 3-4-3 without too many issues.
Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes with their experiences and skills have been good for the most part as the midfield double pivot. But, there is a clue that the level of the midfield area is still lacking in something.
Amorim wants his midfield to be mobile and dominant, and the vision could only be a thing if he can get players with the dynamic profiles he has been craving since his arrival.
One name that has been closely reported on being on the United’s transfer radar is Joao Gomes from Wolves. He is a modern-football ball-winner. Gomes’ strength and tenacity, his ball recovery, and his ability to disturb the opponents’ rhythm make him seen as the perfect replacement for aging Casemiro.
Recent rumors from some sources suggested that Manchester United were trying to get him this winter.

Mark Brus of Caught Offside also writes that Manchester United are in the pole position to get his signature. Mark explains that:
“It’s understood that Liverpool were also closely monitoring Gomes, though I’m reliably told that their interest has now cooled.
“So, for the time being at least, if anyone’s going to sign Gomes it would probably be United, with sources close to a number of the game’s leading agents informing me that there is a ‘strong appreciation’ of the Brazilian’s qualities at Old Trafford.”
Such a statement means that Manchester United is in a race on their own to secure the signature of the Brazilian. A scenario for INEOS to boost their confidence.
What Joao Gomes Can Offer For Manchester United
With Man United’s midfield wanting more physicality and more bite, Gomes’ set skill can certainly give that.

Gomes currently running the Wolves’ midfield with so much intensity and so much energy. If only Wolves have better overall team, they will not be in the situation where they are right now. Gomes is not the creative type midfielder who can make the diagonal passes look easy or someone with flair that mesmerize dribbling.
Gomes is the type of player that will cover his teammates’ mistake and all the problem they created. He is the one that will get you the ball and stops the opponents from doing as they like.
Gomes’ experience in playing in the Premier League will be a plus point to his adaptation time, just like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbuemo that become instant hit the moment they hit the ground.
If the move in the winter transfer window can be done, Gomes will be a great boost for United squad depth and also to set tone for the midfield overhaul. He will be upgrade of Manu Ugarte who has been not performing on his top level since his arrival to the Theater of Dreams.
Casemiro, whose contract will be expired next summer also doesn’t to be asked to stay longer by the Manchester United’ board unless he’s willing to take a massive pay cut. Read more article about Manchester United on Price In UK
As reported many times before, there are names that Manchester United will assess for their midfielder set up. Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, or Elliot Anderson as they are seen to be the piece of puzzle to complete the midfield issues.
