Manchester United hosted West Ham in the gameweek 14 of Premier League on Thursday night.
United had to play without De Ligt as he picked up some minor injury during training, and Mason Mount was benched after he made his first 90 minutes game last match. With the absence of De Ligt, Ayden Heaven was given the chance to be in the starting line up with Leny Yoro also benched.
Matheus Cunha who had been injured also directly started the game, while Benjamin Sesko and Harry Maguire still needed more time to recover.
West Ham came without Lucas Paqueta who got a red card against Liverpool. Beside Paqueta’s absence, there was nothing more going on for The Hammers.
The home team came with high spirit after their 2-1 win in the weekend against Crystal Palace. West Ham on the other hand tried to get out of the relegation zone after 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the weekend.
The first five minutes started well for Man United where they had more possession of the ball, but West Ham quickly picked their moment and started to have some moments. Both teams had some chances to score but none were dangerous enough.
Matheus Cunha whose presence has been missed might need more time after his injury because every touch and decision he made wasn’t on point. United’s left side proved to be lacking quality with Dalot on wing-back. They barely created anything from the left and pretty much every attack had been from the other side with Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbuemo.
West Ham on the other hand were defending very solidly as a unit, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka having very good performance. His tackles were important to deny many chances from Manchester United. United actually had a very good chance by Zirkzee, but Wan-Bissaka could clear the ball away. The scoreline remained 0-0 at half-time.
The second half began, and United could keep their intensity to attack and gave pressure to West Ham’s defense, but West Ham were very solid in the back, and The Red Devils really looked like they lacked creativity to break down the defense.
Deadlock finally broke on 58’ minute after Casemiro’s deflected shot landed on Dalot’s foot who then calmly sent the ball behind the net. It was his first goal this season in all competitions.
After that goal, Man united kept attacking mainly from the right hand side. West Ham’s solid defense and their quick counter attack could give some hard time for United’s defense with Jared Bowen performing really well.
West Ham got their equaliser late in the game on 83’ minute from the corner kick. The corner was taken to aim at the near post where Bowen did a flick header that could be cleared by Mazraoui, but the rebound landed right into Magassar who found no one to mark him and he easily put the ball into the net.

With that goal, Manchester United’s players looked like they were losing the fighting spirit and West Ham had the momentum. Bruno Fernandes had the chance to score the winning goal for United in the 94’ minute, but he couldn’t find the net.
The game ended with a 1-1 score and both teams shared one point.
Manchester United’s Position in the Table

Should Manchester United won this match, they would be sitting the 5th position just one point behind the top four, but with this result, United currently sit in the 8th position of the Premier League’s table. Fan are disappointed because, many teams were having bad results in gameweek 14 and United should be able to maximize their chance to get into the top four.
For West Ham, this result was not enough to get them out of the relegation zone. They are currently sitting in the 18th position, with two points gap with Leeds United.
