Manchester United’s head coach, Ruben Amorim again watched his team lose the lead after they scored first. Against West Ham, United couldn’t find a way to score a goal in the first half, they could break the deadlock in the second half after Casemiro’s shot got deflected and finished by Diogo Dalot.
Manchester United players may have thought that one goal was enough to secure the win until Soungoutou Magassa scored the equalizer late into the game and Manchester United dropped two points at Old Trafford.
Manchester United started the game without Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro. De Ligt was sidelined due to minor injury and Yoro probably benched after his performance against Crystal Palace. Even without De Ligt and Yoro, Man United could defend steady enough, but they found it hard to break down Nuno Espirito Santos’ defense. In the post match interview, Amorim was asked what went wrong and the fact that the equaliser came after the substitutions, he said:
“It was not constant. We had good moments and we lost a little bit in the first half, and in the second after the goal, control. We should have closed the game when we scored the first one. We knew to defend well outside the box and that any set piece could be a problem. In the end we lost two points.”
“It’s just losing second balls and when they kick the ball, Mateus [Fernandes] running with the ball. They win the first ball and then Bowen making the runs. We can control that control that type of game. We had a big opportunity with Cunha. The characteristics of the players in the box have sometimes not been good enough.”
“It’s not an excuse. The players change but they know what to do in every situation. The game is 83 minutes and we need to close the game.”

He looked so annoyed because it happened in many games where they had the lead first. The match against Tottenham and Nottingham Forest could be the examples of that. They were leading first in those two matches, then they let the opponent control the tempo of the game and scored two goals past them, after that they fought until they could score the equaliser.
Diogo Dalot’s Reaction After Manchester United Failed to Win

Diogo Dalot was also interviewed after the game. He was asked about his view about the game, he said:
“Obviously disappointed. 1-0 up with 30 minutes to go we have to control more of the game, especially at Old Trafford. We cannot get as anxious as we got after the goal. We were a little bit sloppy with ball possession. I’m disappointed with the draw. We had the game there.”
He was also asked about what happened in the second half and his feeling after scoring his first goal this season. Dalot reply was:
“We need to find a solution. it can various things. It shouldn’t be like this. You fight 60 minutes to score a goal and when you do it should be more of the same things. In the end we have to look to ourselves. It’s more our fault than credit to West Ham.”
It’s a good feeling. Every time you can score for a club like this it’s amazing, especially at Stretford End. In the end, I would change it for the three points without thinking. Like I said, this type of result just gives you something to look at. We cannot be winning at home with 30 minutes to go and not controlling the game.”
Both Amorim and Dalot looked like they were annoyed with the result, especially with the fact that Manchester United could sit in 5th position and just one point away from Chelsea if they won the game.
