Manchester United again played without Matthijs De Ligt in the 4-1 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers. De Ligt was also absent in the 1-1 draw facing West Ham at home.
Ruben Amorim was saying that De Ligt had a minor issue before the West Ham game and he will be back in the next game, which was against Wolves. But, the Dutch international was nowhere to be found in the team sheet.
Manchester United ended the game with a 4-1 score to put them in 6th position in the table, and Bruno Fernandes was really inspiring for the team’s performance.
After the match, Amorim refused to give a return date when asked about when De Ligt will be back with the team.
Amorim told journalists
“I don’t know, sometimes you have an idea, then you have to see day by day,”.
“I’m not going to say when he is coming back.”
With De Ligt out injured, he was added to the injury list that previously only contained Harry Maguire and Benjamin Sesko.
Ayden Heaven once again chosen as one of the starting center backs alongside Luke Shaw and Noussair Mazraoui who was later replaced by Leny Yoro in the second half.
Amorim will certainly hope that Maguire and De Ligt will be back as soon as possible, especially with Manchester United getting closer to the busiest schedule of the year, and with Mazraoui joining his country for the African Cup of Nation (AFCON) in the coming weeks
De Ligt has been important in Man United’s defense and without him, United’s defense were lacking aggression. And of course with him as the central center back, Amorim usually put him higher during the build up to invite opponents’ press and release the double pivot from excessive pressure.
Even with the long build up, the presence of defender like De Ligt or Harry Magiure is important to win the second balls and winning the aerial duels. As we can see from the last two games, Manchester United seemed a bit struggle to deal with aerial duels without the presence of De Ligt or Maguire
Manchester United lack of Option in The Back
With the injury of Matthijs De Light and Harry Maguire, Manchester United only have limited options in the center back position. Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw, Noussair Mazraoui, Ayden Heaven and Lisandro Martinez who still needs more time before he can play regularly after his long ACL injury.

With Mazraoui preparing to be in the AFCON, only four names are ready to be in the starting line up. That is quite concerning especially when Manchester United play with three at the back and there is only one player on the bench to cover for three players.
Fans are also hoping for his quick recovery and his availability will be important when United face Bournemouth in the Premier League next week.
