Manchester United sold their academy product, Mason Greenwood to Marseille in the summer transfer window of 2024. As the sporting director of the club at that time, Dan Ashworth included a sell-on clause of 50% for Greenwood’s deal. Greenwood has been excellent at his loan spell at Granada with many clubs interested in signing him at that time.
As per Fichajes, Saudi’s side of Neom Sport are keen to bring Greenwood in to Saudi Arabia for a reported fee around €100 million to secure the signature of former Manchester United’s player.
With the 50% sell-on clause on the deal with Marseille, Man United could pocket the €50 million they get from the deal. The decision from Dan Ashworth looked like a masterclass now. With the funds they could possibly secure, Manchester United could add it to the extra fund for their transfer.
Manchester United Could Really be Helped With That Potential Fund

Manchester United are still looking to improve their squad massively in the next transfer windows. It could also help United to balance the book because the financial situation of the team, especially the PSR are looking a bit concerning.
The Red Devils are doing well so far to improve their quality in some areas of the field. They signed three attackers this summer, and the new signings are doing well to improve the attacking side of Manchester United. But United still need to improve in the other areas like midfield and wing-backs. They also still need overall squad depth for the bench.

Arsenal and Manchester City are having very good squad depth, with them not looking too different even when they are not playing with their best 11. That is not the case for United, as they always struggle to control the midfield when Casemiro is subbed off in the second half. They also look confused to attack from the wide area on the right if Amad is playing in the no.10 role.
Signing top-quality players could bridge the gap with elite Premier League teams, and with the potential funds, United could really make that happen. As reported, Man United are doing all they could to strengthen some positions on the field.
Mason Greenwood’s Current Situation

Greenwood, on the other hand, is doing really well in France. He is currently the top goal scorer for Ligue 1 with 10 goals and four assists after 14 games, with Marseille sitting in the 3rd position in the French top flight league.
He is a top-quality player, but his scandal in England makes it impossible to come back to the Premier League as it will not look good for the clubs he represents. It will be interesting to see if Greenwood will take the step to join Neom Sport in Saudi Arabia.

Marseille certainly will be attracted with €100 million transfer fee prepared for them, as the French Ligue 1 side are having difficulty to find other sources of income. The only thing we have to wait is whether Neom Sport will send their Official offer in January, or whether they will wait for the summer transfer window to sign Greenwood.
As football enthusiasts, do you think Greenwood will take that step and follow the lists of elite players that join Saudi’s league for big money? Or do you think he will turn down the offer and wait for an elite European club to enter for his signature?
