Manchester United are yet to play their Premier League this week as they are scheduled to play on Monday night. However, Monday is also the deadline of the AFCON players to leave their clubs to join their country.
December 15 is the deadline FIFA set for every club to release their players who are participating in the 2025 AFCON. Manchester United will play Bournemouth in the Premier League. According to Manchester Evening News (MEN), Man United are still in talks with Cameroon, Morocco, and Ivory Coast to delay the departure of their trio.
Manchester United will lose Bryan Mbuemo, Amad Diallo, and Noussair Mazraoui due to their participation in AFCON that will begin on 21 December 2025. They will try to hold the departure of the three players just until after the Bournemouth match.
Until today, there is no outcome that could be reported about the decision from all parties, but United will try all they could to make these players available for Ruben Amorim on Monday night.
In La Liga, Real Betis are also facing the same issue where they need to play on Monday night. They also held talks with the Morocco football federation about delaying the departure of their duo, Sofyan Amrabat and Abde Ezzalzouli. But Morocco are denying the negotiation so Amrabat and Ezzalzouli will be released before the match of Betis on Monday night.
Missing Players During AFCON
If the request of Manchester United is rejected, they will be short in three different positions. Bryan Mbuemo has been Man United’s top goal scorer this season and he plays an important role in the right side no.10.
Amad Diallo is another attacking threat for United that will leave for the AFCON. He has been so good at holding the width and his connection with Mbuemo is the key of The Red Devils’ attack from the right side.

Noussair Mazraoui is a versatile player that has been playing on either right center back or in the right wing-back for Ruben Amorim on his 3-4-2-1 formation.
Amorim Comments About Manchester United AFCON Trio
Ruben Amorim was asked during the pre-match conference about the latest information about the availability of AFCON trio. Amorim said:
“It’s frustrating, but at the same time, nobody knows who is going to play, so it’s a good thing. We have players to cope with everything. With a long week, you can see a lot of things and work on stuff to prepare for any situation.”
It is a test for Manchester United and Amorim on how they will deal with this situation. Man United are quite stacked in some areas like the no. 10 where they get some names that are ready to be in the starting 11.
