Manchester United were reportedly going for Sergio Ramos after his contract at Monterrey ended. Ramos was also reported to be exploring the managerial side of the game. WIth the move to United, he reported to be an interim for Ruben Amorim and also as the player.
Sergio Ramos is considered a legend by fans of Real Madrid after winning UCL four times with them during his time there. He spent 16 years at Madrid and was one of the important players for many managers. He was playing Under the like of Carlo Ancheloti, Zinedine Zidane, Jose Mourinho.

However, sources from ESPN reported that Manchester United are not interested in signing Ramos for the remaining season. Sources from ESPN also said that there will be no major signing for Man United in January, as their targets are likely unavailable during the transfer window. And also considering the PSR rule that limits their movement in the market during January. Any major signing will be done in the summer.

However, with AFCON coming right up, the situation might change. United will be without Bryan Mbuemo, Amad Diallo, and Noussair Mazraoui potentially after the game against Bournemouth. Ruben Amorim will certainly short of options in certain games with those three players unavailable.
If United are doing business in January, they will likely go with squad players type and players with versatility that can play in many positions to help Amorim with e lack of options.
