Manchester City came to Selhurst Park with high confidence and high spirit with them winning the last five games in all competitions. They also came with a mission to keep the gap tight with Arsenal who won their game against Wolves yesterday. With Erling Haaland in a red hot form, Man City surely a difficult team to face.
Crystal Palace as the host also in good form, and with their own mission to carry out their good performance to maintain the top four position.
The game started and Crystal Palace almost opened the scoring in the 17’ minute after Adam Wharton gave a beautiful pass to Yeremy Pino. Pino, who was only facing Donnarumma, failed to convert that chance after his shot hit the bar. Mateta who was very open to receive a pass also looked disappointed with that miss.
Manchester City got more ball possession in this match, but Palace’s solid defense made it difficult for them in the first half. City finally scored in the 40’ minute into the game, after Matheus Nunes sent a brilliant cross into the penalty area. Haaland then with his aerial ability headed the ball and gave Man City the lead.
The Eagles almost found the equalizer after Mateta was freed in a 1v1 situation with Donnarumma, but the Italian goalkeeper won the battle with a brilliant save. Manchester City lead 1-0 in the first half.
In the second half, the game remained similar to the first half. Man City got more possession and Palace tried to hit them in the counter attack. Just two minutes into the second half, Adam Wharton almost scored but his shot hit the post.

Phil Foden doubled Manchester City’s lead in the 68’ minutes after a good run from Rayan Cherki. Cherki put the ball to Foden who then did a low shot into the bottom corner that couldn’t be saved by Dean Henderson. Man City sealed the game after Savio was brought down by Henderson in the penalty area late in the game. Haaland perfectly executed the penalty and Man City came home with all three points.
Man City fans are certainly happy after they had a rough start of the season and now, Pep Guardiola started to find solutions to make his team win games again.
Crystal Palace and Manchester City Position in the Table
With this result, Manchester City kept their 2nd position and two point gap from Arsenal, keeping the pressure in the title charge. Next match, Man City will face Brentford at Etihad, and Pep Guardiola team will use this good momentum to build more pressure to Mikel Arteta’s side in the Premier League table. Every match will be important for both Man City and Arsenal with only two points separate them.

For Crystal Palace, this result meant that they went down to 5th position after Chelsea beat Everton yesterday. They will face Leeds United in the next Premier League match and they need to find back their performance to keep fighting for the UCL spot.

Crystal Palace only two points away from Chelsea in the 4th position, and in could be changing every week. Manchester haven’t played their game, and if they could win against Bournemouth, they will overtake Palace and be in the 5th position with same points as Chelsea. The Premier League standing is very competitive this season, and we couldn’t really see who’ll be in what position. More article about related topic could be found in Price in UK.
