The Christmas Classic, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Is Now Free On Apple TV

Reported by usatoday, one of the world’s biggest streaming platforms, Apple TV, has announced that it will hold a free streaming event for its Peanuts series before Christmas in the spirit of holiday cheer in October.

A Charlie Brown Christmas has always been a mainstay of the holidays since the 1960s. TV execs and even some of the show’s writers were certain it would fail when it debuted on December 9, 1965. It happened because the cartoon début was unlike anything seen on television at the time.

It has slow pacing, plain animation, and is voiced by real kids instead of professional voice actors. The animation also brought on jazz pianist Vince Guaraldi to fill its official soundtrack, a strange choice for a kids’ cartoon at that time.

However, turns out that more than 15 million American households watched its premiere, which is half of all TV viewers at the time. In the end, A Charlie Brown Christmas successfully won both an Emmy for Outstanding Children’s Program and a Peabody Award in 1966. Since then, the animation has been deeply rooted as a beloved holiday classic from generation to generation.

The story itself, follows the journey of the main character, Charlie Brown, who is sad because of the holiday’s commercialism, and is recruited by Lucy to be the director of the gang’s play.

As demonstrated by Linus’s Bible reading and the famous, modest Christmas tree that blossoms with love, the show is notable for its truthful depiction of holiday commercialism and the search for deeper meaning, finding it in faith and simplicity.

It has become a cultural touchstone that strikes a balance between secular traditions and spiritual roots for millions of people.

It became a timeless classic because it gave expression to sentiments of holiday melancholy and the search for authenticity.
