Premier League mid week fixture between Arsenal and Brentford was won by The Gunners with 2-0 score

This win for Arsenal extended the gap with Manchester City to five points.

In the 11’ minute Mikel Merino scored a header to put Arsenal into the lead, and this goal was his second goal in four days. Arsenal’s lead remained until the half time whistle was blown. In the second half, The Gunner extended the lead with goal from Bukayo Saka that sealed the game for them

The Premier League’s current leaders have lost their strongest center back pair in William Saliba and Gabriel due to injuries. In this match the Cristhian Mosquera was also forced to subbed off with an injury just before the half-time. Declan Rice, who is the leader on the midfield also forced to come off with an injury.

Arsenal are looking very strong right now, with wins against Bayern Munich and Tottenham, then a draw against Chelsea in the weekend and a win today facing Brentford make them a very tough opponent to face at this moment.

The Gunners really look like a team that can finish the job this season. For the last two seasons, Arsenal always looked strong in the early and middle part of the season, then they dropped a lot of points in the second half of the season.

For Brentford, they have been giving hard times for big teams this season. Let’s not forget their performances against Liverpool and Manchester United where they won those games by 3-1. Arsenal is a different team right now, and no one was expecting that Brentford would turn up and win at the Emirates Stadium. They were still putting on a good performance regardless.

WIth this result, Arsenal remains top of the table while Brentford sit in the 13th position with 19 points.

Premier League Need to Change The Schedule?

Arteta urged the Premier League to change the schedule of the clubs to avoid more injuries in the future.

He said: “Declan has played a lot of minutes, but as well, when? Now we play Wednesday night and we have to play Saturday morning as well.

“So we can play minutes, but if they (the Premier League) can please give us just a little bit more time to recover and to make the wellbeing of these players a little bit easier, that would be great.

“Probably it’s not one thing, but we, the league and everybody, can help the players to do what we have to do. Give us another day, especially the teams playing so much in Europe.

“We can do that because we’re going to benefit from that. We’ve never had such a schedule at every level, not only in the Premier League, but every competition internationally as well.

“So we need to try to do that, please.”

In the post match interview, when asked about Declan Rice and Mosquera seemingly getting injured and limping Arteta said said:

“Yes, obviously it’s never good news. Declan had to come off. We don’t know.

“We have to see tomorrow what he’s got. And Mosquera is the other one that is out. Obviously we have big Gabi (Gabriel) and Willy (Saliba) out as well. So we have to adapt. It’s been a theme of this season.

“Declan could not carry on playing, so we have to wait and see tomorrow what happens. He can walk but he cannot play.

“We have to wait and see (on Mosquera). It’s probably part of the knee or ankle, we don’t know. He could not really tell us exactly how it was but he wasn’t able to continue.”
