This season, five English teams are competing in the Champions League. And they have all won in a single round of fixtures on two different occasions. Before this season, this kind of thing had never been seen in the Champions League.
In the past, with the dominance of Real Madrid and Barcelona, PL clubs never had more than 60% win ratio against La Liga’s teams in a single Champions League campaign. The two Spanish giants always find a way to beat PL teams in home and away.
Reasons Behind Premier League’s Team Current Positive Trends
Part of this positive trend is the spending power that EPL teams have. TV rights are one of the massive incomes generated by EPL teams. With that enormous revenue from TV broadcasts alone, English teams can outspend even the big teams from other European countries.

Last summer alone, Premier League teams spent a massive £3 billion on the transfer fee. That’s a record for money spent in a single transfer window. That amount of money even beat the total money spent by other top five European leagues for a in the last summer transfer window.
Liverpool, last season’s Premier League’s champion, spent more than £400 million this summer to rebuild their squad. Arsenal who currently sit on top of PL’s table spent £250 million to strengthen their squad depth. Arsenal also top of the Champions League’s league phase table followed by Bayern Munich on the second position.
The spending power of the English side that could overspend the entire continent make Premier League teams could spend more in signing the best players from any parts of the world. Also, the money generated is used to make a better facility to support the players.
Fans also important in this change of trend. The fans of Premier League teams around the world could easily access the matches and because of the match time happen mostly in the afternoon, the fans from different time zone can enjoy the matches in a reasonable hour.
With more fans watching the games, the income generated from the broadcast will surely keep on coming and make teams can do more especially off the field, with players signing or better facilities.
