A year ago, Manchester United officially sacked Erik Ten Hag a couple months after they decided to keep him for the 2024/25 Premier League season. That decision followed the 2-1 defeat against West Ham in the Premier League.

The season before, Manchester United under Erik Ten Hag finished 8th on the Premier League table. And during Ten Hag’s third season, Man United was sitting in the 14th position on the table. The board of Man United finally had enough and decided to sack him mid season.

Their point-per-games have declined to 1.0 under Amorim while previously under Ten Hag, they had 1.2 point-per-games.

This season though it seems like Ruben Amorim already found his rhythm after having five unbeaten games in the league from October until November. Until they lost 0-1 at home in the gameweek 13 of the Premier League.

After 13 games, Manchester United sit in a four-way tie in 10th place. After a year of Amorim time in Man United and a proper pre-season. The question starts to rise. Are Manchester United better than last year?

Manchester United’s Performance This Season

His replacement is no other than Ruben Amorim. He came with a lot of expectation after a very impressive tenure at Sporting C.P in Portugal. That very high expectation didn’t pay out at the end. United finished 15th on the table under Amorim and fans started to raise their voice demanding Amorim to be sacked after United failed to secure the Champion’s League spot.

Ruben Amorim at Manchester United

Ruben Amorim came with his tactical identity of 3-4-3 or 3-4-2-1. While his formation and philosophy is not changing as he claims. Something is definitely changing this season. Last year, Man United was slow and very ineffective when they were with the ball. More Information and news about Manchester United? You can find it at Price In UK.

After Amorim took over, Man united players looked so confused when they had the ball in the final third. They were slow to attack, looked like they didn’t know what to do and who to pass the ball.

Usually, you can play slow and dominate the possession and control the tempo of the game. Or you can play fast and let the ball come to your area more often. But United last year let the ball come to their area and play slow in attacks. That’s why the conceded too many goals and scored too few.

This season Amorim’s side have the same amount of control of the ball as last season. But their attacking side of the game is getting much better. Their adjusted goals scored this year is 1.67, up from 1.27 last season under Amorim.

Their adjusted goal differential last year was minus-0.16. This year, they have a plus-0.20.

But in general, there hasn’t been enough improvement. It possibly also comes down to the personnel that Amorim currently has in his team. Amorim still doesn’t have players with the right profiles in some areas. Especially in the midfield.

He might need two or three more transfer windows in order to find players with correct profiles so he can play his tactic and philosophy properly without worrying that something might not work because of the wrong profiles.
