3 Apple TV Shows Listed As AFI’s 2025 SOTY

According to 9to5mac, Apple TV has once again proven itself as the best streaming platform based on mainstream popularity and critical acclaim, as its 3 shows are being listed as the American Film Institute’s 2025 Show Of The Year.
This federation is a non-profit US-based organization that is dedicated to the preservation and advancement of the moving image as an art form. AFI‘s honor is based on 3 things, which includes:
- Advance the art of the moving image
- Inspire audiences and artists alike
- Enhance the rich cultural heritage of America’s art form
Here is a short discussion list to give you an illustration of Apple TV’s listed AFI’s 2025 SOTY:
| Show Title | Genre and Total EP | Synopsis |
| Pluribus | Dark comedy, Dystopian Sci-Fi, Drama (9 episodes) | “The most miserable person in the world must save the world from happiness.” Pluribus follows the story of Carol Sturka (Rhea Seehorn), a writer who finds herself isolated after an alien virus turns the rest of humanity into a peaceful and contented group, who nevertheless attempt to assimilate Carol and other immune individuals. |
| Severance | Conspiracy thriller, Dystopian Sci-Fi, Psychological drama (Season 1, 10 episodes Season 2, 8 episodes) | It follows the story of Mark (Adam Scott), who leads a team of office workers whose memories have been surgically divided between their work and personal lives. |
| The Studio | Satire, Showbiz drama, Workplace drama, Comedy (10 episodes) | It follows the story of Matt Remick (Seth Rogen), a Hollywood studio head, who is struggling to balance corporate demands with his own desire to produce quality films. |
With Pluribus and Severance peaking this year’s streaming record, while The Studio winning several awards, it is not a surprise that this year’s AFI SOTY list nominated more of the site’s shows than previous years, where only one or two shows were listed.
As it is known, Shrinking was the only site’s show to make AFI’s list in 2024. Not much different, The Morning Show was the only show recognized in 2023, while 2022 named Pachinko and Severance, and Ted Lasso made the list in 2021.
