How to Make a Parmesan Espresso Martini
Ingredients (Serving 2):
100 ml of vodka
50 ml of freshly brewed espresso coffee
50 ml coffee liqueur
Cheese made in Parma
1. Place two martini glasses in the refrigerator to chill.
2. Place a handful of ice, vodka, espresso and coffee liqueur in a cocktail shaker
3. Shake until the outside of the cocktail shaker feels ice cold.
4. Grate parmesan shavings directly on top.
‘And while the cocktail is perfectly delicious on its own, adding a salty, savory flavor profile from the Parmesan can balance the cocktail’s sweet and bitter flavors beautifully, adding a unique depth that will pleasantly surprise your taste buds.’
According to the expert, cheese and coffee are an unexpected delight because the flavor notes we attribute to coffee — nuts, caramel, flowers and fruit — are often present in cheese.
The practice of putting cheese in coffee is not a new concept – it originated with the Sami people of Scandinavian countries such as Finland, Norway and Sweden.
A North Scandinavian tradition, kafost, is a drink in which cheese cubes are left in a cup of coffee.
