Pedestrian hit by bus in Melbourne near a busy intersection

A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a truck on a busy Melbourne strip on Tuesday.

The pedestrians, who have not yet been identified, were near the intersection of Burwood Road and Power Street in Hawthorne at around 9am on Tuesday when they were struck by the truck.

They died on the spot.

Victoria Police are investigating and the driver of the car has spoken to officers.

Emergency services are also at the scene.

The crash caused major traffic delays on Burwood Road and Power Street.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use Church Street, Barkers Road, Glenferrie Road and Riversdale Road as alternative routes.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Victoria Police for comment.

Witnesses to the incident and anyone with information are urged to contact police.
