‘But I nearly died when our last bill came to just $550. I called, and it was not a guess.

‘My partner said my daughter was taking too long in the shower – but I honestly didn’t notice, what’s a few extra minutes?’

The family then set a ‘timer’ to go off after 10 minutes to see if this would make a significant difference to their bill.

Many expressed frustration that their families took long showers.

‘My teenage son takes 20+ minutes to shower!’ A mother shouted. ‘I told him a billion times, just 10 minutes! I set the timer, I knock on the door. It drives me crazy to no end.’

Another added, ‘I can double wash my hair, do a treatment, wash my body and shave in 10-15 minutes – and that’s long for me. I don’t know how to get the kids out quickly.’

One dad wrote: ‘We have timers in our bathrooms or my kids will stand in there for an hour or more if allowed.’

But one mom shared something that many have not considered.

‘I’m water savvy and very conscious of electricity consumption – but I take very long showers when my mental health is in the gutter,’ she shares.

‘A lot of your kids may have deeper reasons for doing this, reach out to them.’
