Phil Burton is the winner of Dancing with the Stars 2023.

The Human Nature singer beat Home and Away actor Emily Weir to take home the coveted mirror ball trophy and was awarded $20,000 for her chosen charity, NSW Police Legacy.

The remaining finalists competing on the night were actors Christy Whelan Brown and Virginia Gay, beloved comedian Mary Costas and singer Paulini.

Phil and partner Ash-Leigh Hunter found themselves in first place for their move to Motown Wilson Pickett’s Land of 1000 Dances, with Emily and her partner Liu Masuda performing a Spice Girls inspired salsa.

After tallying the judges’ scores with the audience’s votes, Christy, Mary, Paulini and Virginia say goodbye, with Phil claiming the shiny gong.

The successful crooner was understandably elated at his win.

‘This show has been incredible for the last seven weeks,’ he told hosts Daryl Somers and Sonia Kruger. ‘I had the absolute time of my life.

‘And, you know, it’s a competition but it doesn’t feel like it when you’re here and you’re with all these amazing people. It has been an absolute pleasure to be a part of.

‘I would also like to thank my family who were here tonight, my beautiful wife and my children.’

Phil saved his biggest praise for dance partner Ash-Leigh Hunter.

‘But the biggest thank you for me has to go to Ash,’ he told the delighted audience.

‘He brought out a side of me I didn’t know existed’.
