New Zealand real estate agent charged with kidnapping as desperate search continues for missing woman

Real estate agent Yanfei Bao was last seen Wednesday accused of kidnapping

A man accused of kidnapping a New Zealand real estate agent has yet to be found.

Yanfei Bao was last seen ‘conducting business’ in Wigran, south-west Christchurch, at 10.30am on Wednesday.

The New Zealand Herald reported that the man was arrested at an airport for allegedly trying to board a plane.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in the Christchurch District Court on Monday.

Yanfei Bao was last seen ‘conducting business’ in Wigran, southwest Christchurch, at 10.30am on Wednesday.

As part of the investigation, officers seized a silver Mitsubishi sedan on Saturday evening.

‘We are interested in seeing the vehicle from mid-week until last night, but with a particular focus on the vehicle’s location on Wednesday July 19 in Wigram, Hornby, Tai Tapu, Halswell, Redcliffes and New Brighton,’ Nicola Reeves, Detective Inspector, said.

‘The investigation is ongoing, and a number of people are assisting the police with their enquiries.’

Ms Reeves revealed Ms Baur’s phone was found on the side of a motorway, which was of particular concern to police.

‘Police searched several areas and found Ms Baur’s cellphone on the Southern Motorway. But Miss Bao is missing,’ said Mrs Reeves.

‘We are now keen to hear from any members of the public who were traveling on the motorway on Wednesday and noticed anything out of the ordinary.

‘Anyone with any information, however small, is encouraged to contact police immediately.’

As part of the investigation, officers seized a silver Mitsubishi sedan on Saturday evening.

Ms Bao’s sister Huafei said the real estate agent had contacted a man who tried to transfer NZ$600,000 (AU$550,949) from China to buy a property.

‘The thing I hope for the most is to find my little sister, and she’s OK,’ he told Staff.

Ms Bao’s family released a statement describing her as a ‘dedicated real estate consultant’ who was ‘involved in the local community by knocking on doors’ at the time of her disappearance.

“My family and I are deeply concerned for the safety and well-being of my beloved wife, Yanfei Bao,” Ms. Bao’s husband, Paul Gooch, said in a family statement.

‘Our 9-year-old daughter and I are desperate for any information that could help the police find her. ‘
