Cairns show horror: Shocking moment carnival-goers get stuck on pendulum ride

Carnival-goers were left stranded at the Cairns show after the pendulum ride malfunctioned

Shocking footage has captured the moment a popular amusement park ride malfunctioned, leaving a group stuck in the air.

Riders were left stranded in mid-air after a 55m pendulum ride malfunctioned at the Cairns show.

In the video uploaded to TikTok, user Mike Munro said the ride was ‘quite high off the ground’ when it stopped.

‘People are stuck in there,’ he can be heard saying in the footage.

There’s a guy in that box, he’s beating some electrical equipment in there.

‘(He’s) literally rocking it. I don’t know if it will help to go.’

Mr Munro then said: ‘Good old Cairns Show Aye. Broken.’

Comments on the video, which was also posted on local Facebook pages, claimed the ride broke down several times.

Cairns Show president Ian Allen told the Courier-Mail that the new 55m tall ‘The Warrior’ ride was in trouble.

He said a faulty alarm went off in the middle of the ride, forcing its operators to shut down the ride mid-swing for 35 minutes.

“The generator that was running overheated so they evacuated everyone,” he said.

‘This is the second time it’s been featured on the show,’ he said.

The Cairns Show, which is held at the Cairns Showground, runs from July 19-21.

According to its website, the show hosts several amusement park-style rides and events.
