Taryn Thomas’ ex-girlfriend has opened up about her traumatic ordeal after the North Melbourne star threatened to share a revealing video of her.
Jamai Curran, 28, told News Corp he was accused of being a fraud and a victim during Thomas’ court case, where the midfielder escaped jail and was ordered to pay $1000 to charity.
Curran condemned the sanction handed to his former partner, insisting it sends a message that wealthy men can ‘get away’ with similar crimes.
He said, ‘It sets a terrible precedent for men who mistreat women who can pay a bit of money and get away with it.’
Curran added that she had been ‘silenced for a very long time’ due to court proceedings and revealed the shocking messages Thomas had sent her, including threats of revenge porn.

‘The reason I’m speaking out now is because I’ve had multiple people tell me to keep quiet over the last 12 months because his lawyers will use anything I say against me,’ he said.
‘This is just one example of abusive men still having power and control.’
The messages read as follows:
Koran: ‘Your mother must be proud. At this point it’s ridiculous. I slept with your friend so you can justify how you treat me.’
Thomas: ‘Don’t bring my mother into this, I’ll bring her to smash you like that.
He then claimed she leaked intimate videos of them together that were consensually recorded.
Thomas: ‘And don’t worry I’ve already sent it.’
Curran replied that he would consider pressing ‘revenge porn’ charges, before Thomas claimed his phone had been hacked.
Thomas: ‘Your word is against me.’
Curran added that the hardest part of his long fight for justice was the fear that the public would not believe him.

‘My biggest fear was not being believed because he was an athlete, or what the media would say,’ he said.
‘I’m very aware of his position as an athlete and the impact it has.’
She also fears that Thomas’ endorsement could deter other women from coming forward.
‘It makes me feel sorry for other people who are in potentially abusive situations and they’re either too afraid to speak up, they feel they won’t be believed, or they won’t get justice,’ added Curran.
‘It is especially difficult for women who are involved in the public sphere.
‘I know two other women who were abused by him who didn’t come forward.’
