As the boyfriend of a young woman who was shot alongside her mother and left to bleed in the driveway, he aims to make the world a safer place.

Daniela Vargulis, 22, and her mother Alexandra, 51, were allegedly shot dead in Campbelltown, northeast of Adelaide, about 1.20pm on Saturday.

Alexandra died at the scene while her daughter was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with critical injuries and has since undergone surgery.

Danielle’s boyfriend Corey Stevens, 24, said his partner became a lawyer to make the world safer and would be even more determined to do so after the incident.

‘Daniella and I would talk for hours every night about how she wanted to fight for justice and bring criminals to justice, to make the world a safer and better place,’ he wrote in a GoFundMe fundraiser.

‘He wants to probe the minds of criminals, to understand all the events in life that lead to their crime.

‘Daniella will not stop here, she will come back stronger and still fighting for the lives of those in need.’

She has set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds for her ‘extensive medical, psychological and wellness expenses’.

‘Daniella is fighting for her life and needs the support of the world,’ Mr Stevens said.

Bless her heart and soul, Alexandra, 51, who is no longer with us, supported her daughter and loved her deeply through thick and thin. They were truly inseparable from each other.

‘Daniella and Alexandra did not deserve this and Daniella will need the support of the world as she deals with her physical injuries…

‘Daniella’s family, friends, colleagues and I love Daniela Vargulis with all our hearts and now she needs a little more support to help her, so she can help others later in life! ‘

The GoFundMe page has raised more than $6,000.

He appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court for the first time on Monday, where a confidentiality order was issued to prevent his identity as police continued to investigate the case and argued they were yet to interview key witnesses.

Daniela recently graduated from the University of South Australia three months ago with a bachelor’s degree in law and psychology.

Alexandra was a long-standing staff member at the University of South Australia, working as Executive Assistant in the UniSA Education Futures Department.

A University of South Australia spokesman said the UniSA community was ‘shocked and saddened’ by Ms Vargulis’ death and sent its condolences to the family.

‘He was a highly respected colleague and will be sorely missed,’ the spokesman said.

‘Our thoughts are with Alexandra’s loved ones at this difficult time.

Daniela recently graduated from the University of South Australia with a bachelor’s degree in law and psychology three months ago and spoke with her boyfriend about wanting to ‘fight for justice and bring criminals to justice, make the world a safer and better place’.
