Our girls’ trip to Hamilton Island was ruined by a group of cheeky cockatoos who completely trashed our expensive hotel room: Here’s What Happened

Hotel guests on Hamilton Island left their room doors open when cockatoos broke out and caused chaos.

Two hotel guests learn the hard way why it’s important to keep your balcony door closed when a cockatoo invades their room and makes a huge mess.

Ellie-May was staying at the Reef View Hotel on Hamilton Island, Queensland, with a friend who had a flock of mischievous sulphur-crested cockatoos.

The couple made the mistake of leaving their balcony door open, allowing the birds to enter the room and wreak havoc, despite the hotel posting numerous warnings.

Animals broke into Aussie companions’ mini fridges and ate snacks, defecated on their beds and even flew off with clothes.

Ellie and her friend are horrified when they return to their house but ask the housekeeping staff to provide cleaning supplies to undo the cockatoo damage.

Two hotel guests got the shock of their lives when they returned to their room to find it trashed after cockatoos entered their balcony door with the door open.

Ellie-May was staying with a friend (pictured) at the Reef View Hotel on Queensland’s Hamilton Island, which is home to a flock of mischievous sulphur-crested cockatoos.

‘They said don’t leave your door open because the birds will come and see everything and guess what we’ve done? We’re keeping the door open,’ Ellie said in a TikTok clip.

He panned the camera around the room to reveal the havoc the cheeky cockatoos had wreaked.

They broke out the mini fridge and ate the food that was to be given to the two guests.

Their beds, floors, furniture and balconies were covered in black bird droppings and their clothes were spread across the floor.

‘Our beds and everything we have are good,’ said Ellie.

‘They also thought, ‘Hey, I’m going to take your bikini bottom’, I don’t know where they are. They took my beach ball. Is this a joke? I think it’s some sick joke don’t you?’

The animals broke into friends’ mini fridges and ate snacks, defecated on their beds and even flew off with Ellie’s bikini bottoms.

Ellie’s video has been viewed more than 1.1 million times and sent thousands into hysterics while others hoped the pair would learn a valuable lesson.

‘It’s going to be a costly mistake,’ laughed one onlooker, while another joked: ‘They had so much fun in that room.’

‘It clearly says not to leave the doors open in the rooms and yet we did the same and they ransacked our room too. It happens, holiday mode,’ added one.

Others say they can cause destructive cockatoos even when they leave their own hotel room doors open.

‘We left our door slightly ajar while sleeping and woke up to someone flying in with our keys,’ recalls one woman.

In a follow-up clip, Ellie (pictured) explains that she and her friend asked the staff for cleaning supplies before housekeeping changed bed sheets and cleaned the floor.

Ellie added in the comments that she did not know how much she would be charged for the mistake but praised hotel staff for their help and finding her bathers on a nearby terrace (pictured).

‘I did it a couple of months ago too.. they came into the kitchen and ate a whole loaf of bread and a packet of coffee,’ added a second.

In a follow-up clip, Ellie explains that she and her friend asked the staff for supplies to clean the room, which they did before housekeeping changed the bed sheets and cleaned the floor.

He added in comments that he did not know how much he would be charged for the mistake but praised hotel staff for their help and said he would incur a fee for what the birds took from their mini bar.

‘I appreciate the staff a lot because it’s our fault we left the door open, we were stupid enough to do it,’ Ellie laughed.

‘They send out a warning every day to remind people like us.’

Ellie also managed to find her bikini bottoms that a cockatoo had left on the roof next to their house.
