A new mum has been asked to ‘spoof’ her toxic husband after he changed the spelling of their newborn son’s name while recovering from an emergency C-section in hospital.
Posting in a mother’s advice column, the mother claimed to have been tricked into changing her husband’s name by her mother, who thought her choice was ‘more masculine’.
The new mom explained that she and her husband chose the perfect name before their son was born.
Her husband liked the name Finlay and agreed that it could be the child’s middle name but spelled with an ‘e’.

And she thought it was – two months after leaving the hospital with her son when she saw that her husband had spelled ‘Finley’ on all legal documents.
The truth comes out when she questions her husband, assuming it was an innocent mistake.
‘Apparently his mother’s guilt drove him to do it.. remember she lives a few states away, so it was over the phone,’ she said.
‘He tried to convince her to give our son a first name which I hated, saying I would ‘go crazy, but get over it’,’ she added.
Her husband refused to change the first name but ‘said his mother wanted the middle name’.
‘She thinks ‘Finley’ is more masculine than ‘Finley’.’
The mother explained that her mother-in-law was always manipulating but this was the final straw for her.
She also revealed that she was mad at her husband for cheating on her for months.
‘His mum even sent a Christmas present with the middle name ‘Finley’, and she didn’t even have the decency to tell me when I made a comment to my husband,’ she fumed.
‘He let me believe for two months that our son’s middle name was spelled Finley when it legally isn’t!’
Ma revealed that she would legally change the documentation to reflect her preferred spelling.
And added that she and her husband would ‘work it out’ but she has denied having a relationship with her mother since everything came out.
But people claim the mother didn’t go far enough.
The mother said she found out about the lie when her baby was two months old
‘What’s the whole story with your husband? He has to decide if you are his co-parent or his mother. And until he makes that decision, he can’t be trusted,’ one woman said.
‘I don’t take divorce lightly, and I’m not recommending it on the strength of this one incident alone, but a thing like this is as good as 65 percent on the potential divorce-o-meter, and if I were. It’s going to take some time for you to get over it,’ he added.
Others described the woman’s husband as a ‘worthless sack’.
‘I will take revenge by never seeing him again and spelling your son’s full name as you wish by filling out birthday and Christmas cards.’
‘He betrayed you while you were recovering, sided with his manipulative mother after one phone call, lied to you for months and made you melt. You’ve got to see this guy – he’s proven he can’t be trusted,’ said another.
The mother said she found out about the spell while looking for birth certificates and social security cards — which her husband had hidden away.
He added that ‘as soon as he did that he felt bad so he hid the document’.
