Daniel Andrews faces global embarrassment as Victoria cancels 2026 Commonwealth Games with state billions of dollars in debt – as he prepares for snap press conference ahead
The Games were supposed to be held in regional Victoria on the back of massive state debt
Premier Daniel Andrews has canceled the 2026 Commonwealth Games to be held in regional Victoria.
Daily Mail Australia understands the Premier will make the announcement at a hastily arranged press conference on Tuesday morning.
The Commonwealth Games staff were reportedly called for an emergency meeting early on Tuesday.
The reason behind the shock move is almost certainly down to money – Victoria’s state debt is forecast to be $135.4 billion in 2024, up from $171.4 billion by 2026-27.
