Lindisfarne Hobart: Why tenants of this wooden floor home will be rent-free when they move out

Tenants of this cozy timber-floored home with scenic views of Aussie landmarks are rent-free when they first move in.

A landlord offering a fortnight of free rent to a tenant could instead spend the money on moving costs.

A new rental listing near the beach won’t cost tenants a penny for the first fortnight in a rare gesture of goodwill from a landlord.

The three-bedroom house at 120 East Derwent Hwy overlooks famous Hobart landmark Mount Wellington from Lindisfarne on the city’s east coast for $525 per week.

For the first two weeks of the lease, the property owner said they don’t expect any rent and instead could pay the tenant for moving costs.

Property includes large yard, wood floors and fresh paint. Pets will also be considered as listed by Kunama Property Management.

It is not the only home in Australia to offer such incentives, although it is one of the most generous.

Another three-bedroom apartment in Prahran, Melbourne has a free week of rent for renters looking to start their move on a good note.

The 1940s-style apartment, which sits at 2/2A Craven Street, offers free advertising for the first week as long as the new tenant can start the lease within a week of being accepted.

These offers come as a rental crisis continues in the country, with most capital cities experiencing regular rent hikes till June this year

In pockets of Sydney, rents have risen by more than 30 per cent, as an influx of international students pushes up prices in Australia’s most expensive rental market.

Rents in central Sydney rose 29.2 per cent to $1,042, while Melbourne’s CBD rose 28.4 per cent, to $664.

Some parts of Brisbane recorded rent increases of more than 20 per cent, with Perth and Adelaide also seeing double-digit increases.
