Among the top finalists, we’re treated to a playful cat striking a triumphant victory pose, a mischievous dog channeling their inner Zorro, a feline athlete poised to take a free kick, and a heartwarming image of a dog tenderly hugging an orangutan.

The brainchild of talented professional photographers Paul Johnson-Hicks and Tom Sulam, the Funny Pet Photo Contest was founded to honor the invaluable and positive role pets play in our lives.

These snapshots capture the magic of our furry friends in moments of pure joy and silliness.

Now, 25 shortlisted images face the discerning gaze of an expert panel of judges, all dedicated animal lovers.

This distinguished panel includes renowned TV presenter, author, conservationist, and animal lover Kate Humble and multi-talented comedian, TV presenter, and author Mel Geidroyek.

Already respected TV vet and animal welfare campaigner Emma Milne and accomplished pet photographer LK Vogelsang also make up the panel.

Reflecting on the competition, one of the co-founders of Comedy Pets, expressed their excitement, saying, ‘Once again, we were treated to some truly hilarious entries, showcasing a wonderful variety of animals.

‘From mischievous ferrets to leisurely turtles and even donkeys, alongside countless hilarious cats and dogs, this year’s competition has been a riot of laughter and enjoyment.’

Now, the search is on to crown the overall winner of Funny Pets 2023

Additionally, the People’s Choice Awards, where everyone can participate, will recognize the film that captures the public’s heart.

The 2023 Comedy Pet winners will be announced on August 11.

These snapshots that have been shortlisted for the competition capture the magic of our furry friends in moments of pure joy and silliness.

Titled ‘Kylian’s Sleep’, this photograph shows a puppy cuddling with an adorable toy, which appears to be offering the dog some puppy love.

One of the judges compared this photo of two adorable cats to Albert Einstein’s famous photograph.

Reflecting on the competition, one of the co-founders of Comedy Pets expressed their excitement, saying the images were ‘hilarious’.

who are you One contributor revealed: ‘Our cat Lily played with a mouse, we saved the mouse and our dog Amy was fascinated by the mouse.’

The snap, titled Edgar’s Dandelions, shows cute Edgar munching on his favorite food – which is dandelion leaves and flowers.

Teenager – love! They say owners can look just like their pets – and one particular animal lover was spotted sharing a very similar hairstyle with their pooch.

Victory! One of the images competing for the crown in the prestigious competition shows this cat reaching for the sky in a triumphant pose.

Additionally, the People’s Choice Awards, open to everyone, will recognize the film that captures the public’s heart.

Big Boss! Contributor Petowner posted this snap of their four cats: ‘Big Boss is the boss here.

Deadly crazy! One contributor shared the story of how they managed to get this incredible photograph, revealing: ‘In March 2019 I was sitting at the Union Square New York dog run when I saw a woman with a pink bag in her hand (to keep her hands clean) pointing at her dog. Throwing the ball which was sitting facing him. The dog then launched himself and flipped in mid-air to face me and snapped! You can see the lady was as surprised as I was with her hands on her head and I think she was saying whoops! I searched in vain through the NY media to find the owner so I could send him a copy No joy so I’m hoping this belly comedy contest will help me find the mystery woman and her jumping dog. You never know!’

My face when my crush says hi! The contributor revealed: ‘We tried to get a dreamy autumn photo of Milo – instead of lying on his side for a bit he’s running around like crazy. Her family loves this shot because it shows her personality better than any other photo.’

Like the dog, like the owner! At first glance, this photo may show three greyhounds sitting side by side – but take a second look!

Little Daisy and her big future! The contributor captioned the adorable snap: ‘Two sisters from different litters: confident Crystal and cute baby Daisy.’

‘Bobby reaching for the ball against a beautiful sunset. We were photographing Bobby as the sun was setting fast and disappearing behind the mountains. I was changing my camera settings, to keep the detail of a black dog against a beautiful sky and soon realized, just go for the easy option and shoot him as a silhouette,’ revealed the photographer.

‘Alex is shy. Max is the playful one. Together they form a deadly cute duo. I had more fun photographing these two than my most adventurous wildlife photography trip ever.’

Pop up! The photographer revealed that he was impressed by the picture of the kitten, adding: ‘He looks like he’s coming out of the autumn leaves, doesn’t he?’
