Mum’s scathing warning about buying second-hand clothes: ‘Everyone needs to see this, I’m shocked’
Mother washed second-hand baby clothes in bathtub, dirt and grime from warm soapy water turned gray overnight Other parents were shocked and disgusted.
A mother issued a reminder to always wash secondhand clothes after a quick wash highlighted how scratchy the material is.
Maureen, from New South Wales, bought a stash of baby clothes from a local op-shop and made sure she washed them first.
The mother of three soaked the clothes overnight in a bathtub filled with hot soapy water, and by morning it was a dirty dark gray with particles floating around.
‘This is why I always wash secondhand baby clothes… realize it can be a little dyey but the amount of dirt left in the bath was amazing,’ wrote Maureen.
Photos of the ‘gross’ water left other parents shocked, and many said they too made sure secondhand clothes were always washed first.

Shocked mums who were ‘totally out’ said they washed clothes on hot cycles in washing machines. Others said they had been doing it for ‘years’.
‘I wash everything. If it is secondhand I take a little more care to wash. If the fabric can take it, wash at 60 degrees with normal detergent and wash booster. At a very low 40 degrees,’ wrote one.
‘I do it on the washi machine so it can be cut. Soak overnight and wash the next day,’ said another.
