Daughter-in-law Princess Caroline of Monaco has opened up in a rare interview about how she broke the story of an Italian prince ‘confessing to murder’.
Beatrice Borromeo, who is considered ‘the most stylish royal’ and has modeled for Dior, worked as a journalist before marrying Grace Kelly’s grandson Pierre Casiraghi.
While working for an Italian newspaper in 2011, he leaked a video in which it was alleged that Prince Vittorio Emanuele of Savoy – the only son of Italy’s last king – admitted he was responsible for the death of German teenager Dirk Hammer who was shot dead in Corsica. 1978.
The prince, known as the ‘pretender to the throne’ of Italy’s defunct monarchy, has denied involvement.
Speaking to Tatler about the story, Beatrice, 37, said, ‘For as long as I can remember… the story of this case has been part of our lives’, adding that Dirk’s mother Birgit is her own mother’s best friend.

Prince Victor, who was in Potenza prison on corruption charges when the footage was recorded in 2006, was seen telling other inmates after his acquittal that he was taken for a ride to court.

The royal, who was 41 at the time, argued with a group of young holidaymakers whom he accused of stealing his inflatable boat.
Dirk Hammer, 19, was shot twice in the right leg and died in hospital three months later.
Victor Emmanuel was acquitted of the murder in a Paris court in 1991.

The six-minute video shown in Il Fatto Quotidiano newspaper was secretly recorded 12 years ago.
In the footage he can be heard saying: ‘I was wrong… wrong.
‘I have to say I took them for a ride… The prosecutor asked for five years and six months. I was sure to win.
‘They gave me a six-month suspended sentence [for arms possession]; Six months, there was amnesty, they didn’t even register [the sentence]. I found out!’
The case is set to be the subject of a new Netflix documentary The King Who Never Was, which Beatrice starred in.
Beatrice is the daughter of Italian aristocrat Don Carlo Ferdinand and worked as a political journalist and documentary maker, before marrying Pierre Casiraghi, 33, son of Caroline, Princess of Hanover and grandson of Grace Kelly.
The case is set to be the subject of a new Netflix documentary The King Who Never Was, which Beatrice starred in.
