BREAKING NEWS: Manson family killer Leslie Van Houten, 73, released from prison after serving 53 years to life
Charles Manson follower Leslie Van Houten walked out of a California prison on Tuesday after serving 53 years to life in prison for his role in two notorious murders.
The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said Van Houten was ‘released under parole supervision.’
His release came days after Gov. Gavin Newsom announced he would not fight a state appeals court ruling that Van Houten should be granted parole.
Van Houten, now in his 70s, received a life sentence for aiding Manson’s followers in the 1969 murders of Los Angeles grocer Leno LaBianca and his wife Rosemary.
He was released from jail early in the morning and taken to transitional housing, his attorney, Nancy Tetreault, said.
